A few have done it, many better than myself, but I do enjoy this process of painting with render layers. Not very long spent on this, just a bit of time after work.
Warmup from today.
Art test from last year for a job I didn't get, but I still had fun with the concept!
Since January I have been Lead Illustrator for Heroes of Newerth and have been responsible for the direction of nearly every Illustration that has been developed in that time frame. A few of the Illustrations I get to make myself! Here are some of them.
Concept Art for an original character design (a bit like a character class in this case) the Wraithlock.
Wraithlocks have potent souls and by using that power they summon the wraiths of great dead warriors. Through inscriptions, mortal remains, and a twist of the Wraithlock's fingers into unholy symbols, he performs the dark art. It is not without a price, however, as each summoned Wraith devours a piece of his youth.
Yesterday was self portrait day and here is how I celebrated.
Meet the Red Man. I've been doing a lot of cartoony characters lately, and I wanted to try to apply that to a more rendered character. I built the same base, focusing on opaque shapes and colors, and used that as a clipping mask to begin rendering.
A little more WIP on the Techlock.
He's one snooty gamer. That's for real. I can't pick a favorite color scheme, so here's all of them.
Started as a doodle, ended as an experiment in style and approach to an image. I like the stylized proportions and the colors, as well as the texture and shading. I'm trying to figure out universal ways to approach images and find styles that appeal to me because right now I like so many different styles.
I just found out the Strife Trailer I worked on for Imaginary Forces was released! I did the texture art for the hero character in the spot, Rook. I really had a blast doing it. IF was great to work with! Check out the trailer, and the website!
These are current stages from my current Techlock illustration. He's a crazed warlock character who focuses his magics through technology. My goal with this image is to create a "card art" style piece.
Don't you forget, he's the manager.
He's the Jacket Man. He may or may not be a purple-skinned flasher. Wearing pants you say? He likes to keep his flashing G-Rated.
I wanted to try a different style of concept art!
Did a study to practice some realism.
A work in progress Self Portrait in ZBrush
A WIP creature design that i started yesterday.
At the top here we have some human male gestures I did as a warm up today, and at the bottom a couple images from an in progress character sculpt.
The past few days I've been practicing gesture. I want to strengthen my ability to pose characters and I'm hoping by practicing gesture I'll be able to do that. I started with female nudes yesterday and today I did animals. In all I've probably done 75 gestures over 3 sessions between today and yesterday, but these are my favorites.
